Repeat from * across the row.Īfter pulling through all 6 loops at the end of the row, chain 3, work 1 DC into the eye, chain 3, and turn. Skip 2 chains, yarn over and insert your hook into the next chain and work the 4th and 5th legs of the DC5tog, (work legs as explained for 3rd and 4th.) I hope you enjoy this pattern, I know that CJ would love that you are making it for your loved one. The border is 3 rounds of back loop single crochet all in one direction, followed by a row of 2 double crochet in each back loop, and then a row of picot, (sc, ch 2, sc.) If that made zero sense, I recorded a Youtube tutorial and I think you’ll see that it is easier than explained. It’s essentially a double crochet 5 together across three “eyes” or centers of each flower of the row below. I’ve fallen in love with this pattern, it reminds me of the star stitch, but this seemed a bit easier. The way the clusters work together reminded me of flowers so I am just calling this blanket CJ’s Flower Blanket.
There wasn’t any pattern repeat given or a photo included, just good enough instructions and explanations that I was able to figure it out. I’m guessing it was a pattern handed down through generations.
I was able to recreate the shell stitch blanket by studying the stitches and figuring out the pattern repeat, for today’s pattern, luckily my friend Shauna was able to find a photocopy of a pattern, written with explanations of how to work the stitches, in CJ’s craft room files. Here’s the blanket I made for Shauna’s oldest daughter that you may remember, I called it CJ’s Shell Stitch Blanket: My friend Shauna’s second-oldest daughter is having her first baby girl, and since CJ is no longer with us, I wanted to make one of her patterns for this new grandbaby coming soon. I have another vintage pattern to share with you today! This is a pattern recreated from a blanket that my friend’s mom Carole Jean or CJ as she was known, crocheted.
